Facial Cleansing: How to Choose the Right Cleanser for Your Skin Type

Facial Cleanser Formulas and Their Differences

Facial Cleansing Gel: The most common daily cleanser format. Applied to damp face, lathered, and rinsed with water. With its light to medium foaming texture, it is ideal for oily, combination, and normal skin types. Dermokil gel formulas are specialized with various active ingredients such as tea tree oil (acne and oil control), rice ferment (brightening and tone equalization), rose water (moisturizing and soothing), kojic acid and vitamin C (anti-blemish), hemp seed oil (intense moisturizing), and niacinamide (sebum balance).

Micellar Makeup Remover Water: A practical format applied with a cotton pad, requiring no rinsing. It removes makeup, sunscreen, and daily accumulated dirt in one step. It is used as the first step of a double cleansing routine. Dermokil micellar water options are offered in five different ingredient themes: tea tree oil (acne-prone skin), rose water (sensitive and dry skin), hyaluronic acid and azelaic acid (tone-evening), AHA+BHA and niacinamide (renewing and pore-unclogging), and hemp seed oil (moisturizing).

Facial Cleansing Foam: The ready-made foam formula is applied directly to the face with low pressure. Providing friction-free and gentle cleansing, this format is ideal for sensitive and redness-prone skin. The foam formula containing AHA+BHA and niacinamide both cleanses and provides gentle chemical exfoliation.

Facial Cleansing Oil: Specifically developed for the first step of the double cleansing method. Based on the principle of "oil dissolves oil," it effectively removes makeup, SPF, and sebum-based impurities. The formula containing hyaluronic acid prevents moisture loss during cleansing.

Choosing a Cleanser According to Skin Type

Oily and acne-prone skin: Gel formulas containing tea tree oil or niacinamide should be the primary choice. AHA+BHA infused foam or micellar water can be added 2-3 times a week for dead skin removal.

Dry and sensitive skin: Gels and micellar waters containing rose water or hemp seed oil cleanse the skin without drying it out. The foam format, with its gentle structure, is suitable for sensitive skin.

Blemish and uneven skin tone concerns: A cleansing gel containing kojic acid and vitamin C or hyaluronic micellar water should be incorporated into the morning and evening routine. AHA+BHA-containing formulas remove dead skin cells, increasing the penetration of active anti-blemish products into the skin.

Skin with makeup: Double cleansing should be added to the evening routine: first, makeup is removed with micellar water or cleansing oil, then a second cleanse is performed with a gel or foam formula. This method significantly reduces pore clogging compared to single-step cleansing.

Correct Cleansing Technique

Facial cleansers should be used with lukewarm water — very hot water disrupts the skin's natural oil barrier, while very cold water reduces the effectiveness of the cleanser. Gel and foam formulas should be applied to damp skin, massaged in circular motions for 30-60 seconds, and then rinsed thoroughly with plenty of water. Micellar waters are applied with a cotton pad and do not require rinsing. All Dermokil cleansers are suitable for use twice a day, morning and evening.
